THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A candlelight vigil, flash mob and sculpture making at the Shangumugham Beach marked the observance of International Missing Children’s Day in Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday.
The event was jointly organised by the Childline, Thiruvananthapuram, and the Kerala Child Rights Observatory.
In a statement, Childline said that, on an average, 44,475 children go missing in India every year.
And there has been an increase in the trend in recent years, according to Childline reports. According to the reports, children are often kidnapped or trafficked for prostitution, organ donations and employment.
In 2005, the National Human Rights Commission said that 44,000 children go missing in India. Of them, 11,000 cases remain untraced. The International Missing Children’s Day is observed to raise awareness of this phenomenon globally and to encourage people to think about children who remain missing.
