THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPI state secretary Kanam Rajendran has called for making the country-wide strike of trade unions on September 2 a success.

“The strike on the first anniversary of the Narendra Modi government is against the proposed amendments in the labour laws favouring the hire and fire policy. To facilitate this, the government is on a move to pool maximum FDI in the railways, defence, and finance sectors,” he said on Sunday.

He said the government was attempting to exclude a good majority of labourers from the ambit of labour laws and to deny their legitimate rights. Kanam said that all trade unions in the country should unite to fight against the anti-labourer and anti-people policies of the Modi government.

Farmers’ Protest

CPI state secretary Sathyan Mokeri has urged the farmers in the state to join the countrywide agitation of farmers and farm labourers on September 1. The Land Acquisition Ordinance is aimed at denying the legitimate rights of farmers. The Modi government is turning a blind to the demands of the Left organisations to launch welfare measures like interest-free loans to farmers, he has said.
