IT Corridor to Witness More Development

Nitin Gadkari sanctioned elevated roads, flyovers and underpasses for the IT corridor

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A complete makeover awaits the IT corridor of Kazhakootam-Akkulam sector as more infrastructural developments are set to happen here all thanks to the initiative of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy. 

In a major development set to transform the topography of Kazhakootam and Technopark, Union Minster Nitin Gadkari sanctioned  elevated roads, flyovers and underpasses for the region. He was replying to the request made by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, who was speaking on behalf of the Technopark officials and techies. The fund for the same will be included in the NHAI fund.

The proposal is expected to ease out the congestion that prevails in the IT corridor despite the four laning of the highway in front of the park. Chandy had earlier said in the meeting that the strength of the employees at the Technopark will be doubled within the next five years. Hence, more infrastructure development is necessary for the area, Chief Minister added. Gadkari also directed the NHAI officials to prepare a good design on for the elevated roads and flyovers which are to be constructed as part of the highway development. 

MLAs Lodge Protest

V Sivankutty MLA told reporters after the function that BJP converted the foundation laying stone ceremony into a party based function. “BJP is trying to politicise the development programme. They also violated the protocol by inscribing the name of BJP state president V Muraleedharan on the stone,” he said. Sivankutty was accompanied in his protest by Kazhakuttam MLA M A Vahid of Congress. Marking their protest, a group of MLAs will lodge a complaint before the Assembly speaker. Kovalam MLA Jameela Prakasham has boycotted the function marking the protest.
