THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan told the Assembly on Wednesday that the government would go ahead with land acquisition for the development of Thiruvananthapuram Airport.

“Though the local people stand firm in their stance against land acquisition, the government is for going ahead with the development of the airport,” he said during the question hour.

He also called upon the people’s representatives to take initiative to make the local people aware about the importance of the airport development project. Instead of taking part in the protest against land acquisition, they should discuss with the people about the need for development, he said.

Vijayan also said the government is in favour of acquiring land through a consensus.

Government had allotted 18 acres for the development of the airport in 2014 near Chackai. However, land acquisition process could not be started due to protests by the local residents.
