AIZWAL: The crisis triggered off in Mizoram over the demand for the ouster of the Chief Electoral Officer S B Shashank is far from over despite a crucial meeting between a delegation of EC, the state government officials and leaders of Mizo NGOs Coordination Committee.

Mounting pressure on the authorities, the Federation of Mizoram Government Employees and Workers on Wednesday lashed out at the Election Commission for transferring the then Principal Home Secretary Lalnunmawaia Chuaungo and announced that the Federation will "not cooperate" with the EC unless the CEO Shashank is transferred out of Mizoram "on or before November 9, 1600 hours".

The Federation has also opposed 'bringing in' a large number of central armed forces personnel in Mizoram for conduct of polls and said in a statement: "It is highly illogical to make the deployment plan of Central forces for the state (of Mizoram) which has the distinction of being the most peaceful state in the country and which has a history of peaceful elections".

The civil society leaders have reportedly turned down the suggestion in their meeting on Tuesday to review their decision to demand Shashank's exit from the state and threatened to renew the stir.

According to sources here on Wednesday, meanwhile, the CEO Mr Shashank may visit New Delhi in a day or to for a meeting with the Election Commission and submit his case before the poll panel.

On last Friday, following the 'complaint' from the CEO Shashank , the poll panel had ordered transfer of the then Principal Home Secretary - a local Mizo officer - and this led to the crisis with NGOs demanding that Mr Shashank be removed from his post and also forced to quit Mizoram.
