HYDERABAD: BJP State president K Laxman criticised UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi’s maiden speech in Telangana. On Saturday, Laxman said that people are not ready to buy the mother-child sentiment promoted by Gandhi. “People are not innocent to get swayed by the mother-child argument. Instead of feeling remorse for the injustice done to the State, you (Gandhi) have come to seek votes which are unfortunate,” said Laxman. If there was so much love towards Andhra Pradesh, why wasn’t a law passed to create special category status, he questioned.

The saffron boss also questioned the Congress’ inability to staking a claim to form the government in Telangana if it really had given the State. “Why didn’t the Congress come into power if it gave the State. People will not forget the injustice done to the people of Telangana for the last fifty years,” he said in a press conference.

In a way, Laxman was setting the tone for BJP national president Amit Shah’s fourth visit to the State ever since polls were announced. With Gandhi’s visit on Friday, Shah is expected to hit out at the Congress in an even more scathing way on Sunday, when he will address three marathon meetings in Nirmal, Sangareddy and Siddipet.
