My wife kept saying that I should try comedy at least once. I suppose she got bored of watching my serious films.

Though others in the industry feel he can act, Madhur Bhandarkar thinks acting is definitely not his forte. Here he talks about his first comedy, ‘Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji’.

‘Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji’ is his first attempt at comedy and filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar is leaving no stone unturned to promote it. Currently busy with the post-production work of the film, Madhur says, “I’m not left with much time since ‘Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji’ is releasing this month. I’m making sure that everything goes well.”

Madhur, who is known for dealing with hard-hitting subjects in his films, says that he chose  comedy this time because he wanted to experiment. “Also because my wife kept insisting that I should try my hand at comedy at least once. I suppose she got bored of watching all the serious films I’ve made so far,” he laughs.

According to him, the USP of the film is its fresh script. “‘Dil Toh...’ is not a slapstick comedy. It's sensible, logical and different. It’s a very simple film that talks about normal people and their problems in life. In fact, it’s as real as any of my other films. You can say it’s a slice of life,” he adds.

Starring Ajay Devgn, Emraan Hashmi, Omi Vaidya, Shazahn Padamsee, Shruti Haasan and Shraddha Das in the lead roles, ‘Dil Toh...’ is a romantic comedy. Madhur says the film might turn out to be a bit of disappointment for those looking for some lip-locking scenes by the serial kisser Emraan. “I’ve not made him kiss anyone in the film. Now, that makes news. Isn’t it?” asks Madhur.

About his future plans, Madhur says, “I think I need a break after this film releases. I need breathing space to analyse how things are going on.”

What’s going to be his next film— a comedy or a serious film? “I don’t know. As a filmmaker, I want to try everything be it a comedy, a serious film or something totally out of the box. I enjoy making all kinds of cinema so it’s difficult to say what’s next,” he sums up.
