NEW DELHI: DJ Nucleya, popular for songs like "Akkad bakkad" and "Let's nacho", says he likes to challenge himself as a musician, and picks projects on that basis only.

"Bollywood is a huge platform, there's no doubt about it. But as far as I am concerned, I wish to work on projects that challenge me as a musician," Nucleya told IANS via email.

"If there's an interesting project that comes my way, I will take it up irrespective of whether it's a Bollywood project or an indie project," added the celebrity DJ.

Nucleya, whose real name is Udyan Sagar, has performed at various music festivals, including NH7 Weekender, Sunburn and Vh1 Supersonic. In February, he had performed at the tenth edition of SulaFest, and now he will perform at Phoenix Marketcity Kurla on Sunday.

Asked about the scope of international music in India, Nucleya said: "It's now pretty evident to the world that there's a large consumer base present here in India. The audience is much more aware today than they were 20 years ago.

"There used to be a time when Bollywood music was your only option, but it's not the case anymore. People are opening up to all sorts of genres today and that will only lead to more and more opportunities - for Indian acts as well as international ones," added the DJ, who has also performed at various international music events, including the Glastonbury Festival and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

Nucleya says his performance at the mall on Sunday will be his "last performance" in Mumbai before he takes off on a six-month break from live shows. He will be playing tracks from his latest album "Raja Baja", along with all of the hits from (his) previous albums.
