LONDON: Pulitzer Prize winner Kendrick Lamar has finally explained the reason for which he shut down a white fan who repeatedly said the N-word during one of his concerts.
A young white woman called Delaney was invited up on stage during Lamar's performance at Hangout Festival in Gulf Shores, Alabama.
As the rapper began to perform 2012 hit "m A A d.City", the fan started rapping along to the lyrics, dropping the racial slur multiple times.
The crowd was quick to boo her, and the rapper stopped the performance and asked her to omit the word.
In an interview with Vanity Fair, he addressed the incident saying, "Let me put it to you in its simplest form. I've been on this earth for 30 years, and there's been so many things a Caucasian person said I couldn't do. Get good credit. Buy a house in an urban city."
"So many things 'you can't do that' whether it's from afar or close up. 'So if I say this is my word, let me have this one word, please let me have that word'."
Lamar's initial reaction caused intense debate online, with people questioning whether or not it was offensive to say the word, given that it was part of his song.
