LOS ANGELES: Actor and comedian Ellen DeGeneres is set to return as the beloved blue tang fish Dory in a new short film set in Pixar’s Finding Nemo universe.

According to reports, key details about the project — including its plot, full cast and release date — are being kept under wraps, though production is due to begin shortly.

The franchise began with Finding Nemo, which follows Nemo, a clownfish with a shortened fin who is captured by a diver near the ocean’s surface. His father Marlin, joined by Dory, embarks on a perilous journey to rescue him, leading to a series of memorable adventures.

The original film earned more than 900 million dollars at the global box office, becoming the highest-grossing animated film of its time and winning the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.

Its sequel, Finding Dory, was released in 2016, with DeGeneres once again voicing Dory. The film went on to gross over 1 billion dollars worldwide and set a record for the highest-grossing opening weekend for an animated film at the domestic box office.

DeGeneres is widely known for hosting The Ellen DeGeneres Show, which concluded in 2022 after 19 seasons. She most recently appeared in the 2024 Netflix stand-up special Ellen DeGeneres: For Your Approval, directed by Joel Gallen.
