Debutant director Ranjith, who has worked as an assistant director to Venkat Prabhu in Chennai-28 and Saroja and in Goa as co-director, is ready with his directorial debut, Attakaththi. “The film will release next month,” says the director. Explaining  why he named his film Attakaththi, he says, “Attakaththi is an object made out of cardboard. It resembles a knife but  is of no use. Similarly, in this film, my hero is like an Attakaththi. He has the traits of a hero but is a dummy. In Chennai, if you see, there are several people like him. These  people talk and act like a hero but they’re not. This is a realistic film which narrates the events that happen in a period of three years.”

When asked if he had read out the script to his guru, Venkat Prabhu, Ranjith says, “Yes, I read out the story and Venkatliked it a lot. He, in fact, told me that he would produce the film. However, he got busy with the shooting of Mankatha and I found another producer. He also advised me that I should not lose focus on the script while directing.”

He claims that his film would provide a new meaning to love stories. He says, “Love is an important factor in everyone’s life. Here I have portrayed love in a different angle.” Dinesh and Nanditha play the lead roles. Aishwarya from Maanada Mayilada fame will be playing an  important role  too.
