She is a respected classical singer, but Shoba Chandrasekaran, mom of actor Vijay, recently exercised her vocal cords to sing a kuthu number. This is for a film directed by a filmmaker who has added Shoba’s husband’s initials to his name, SAC Ramki.
The song, orathula orathula ukandhu pesanum... orumara orumura anumidhi tharuviya... is for the movie Idhayam Thiraiyarangam (IT) directed by Ramki , who was an assistant to S A Chandrasekar. The song has been rendered by Shoba Chandrasekar and folk singer Jeyamoorthi.
“Penned by Viveka, the song is a blend of folk and western genres. Shoba ma’am has sung the western bit and Jeyamoorthi has done the folk part,” says Ramki. The song has been shot in Theni with over 100 elderly men and woman. The lyrics for the other two songs in the film have been written by the director himself, while Mariah Manohar has scored the music.
According to Ramki, Idhayam Thiraiyarangam is the story of a mechanic who works hard to fulfil his parents’ wish of building their own house. He falls in love with a rich girl whose mother believes in astrology.
“In the film, I have raised questions about belief in astrology and god,” says Ramki.
Telugu actor Anand and Swetha who acted in Meeravudan Krishna play the lead pair. The film is likely to hit screens on June 1.
