Kamal Haasan had an interesting piece of news to announce at the Saturday press conference he addressed in Bangalore. Ulaganayagan, who had earlier worked with actor-cum-director Ramesh Aravind in Rama Shama Bhama, is once again teaming up with him. Ramesh calls the proposed film a combination of Kamal's script and his direction. "We have selected Uttama Villain for a working title. The film will be produced by N Linguswamy, who is also a well-known director in Kollywood," he says.
Ramesh, who frequently visits Chennai, had many rounds of discussions with Kamal before the two settled on the script they wanted to work on. "Both of us were full of ideas and everything was inspiring. It was not a linear process. Sometimes we would go crazy. We would be discussing one track and exclaim that we had found our movie. The next minute we would be discussing another subject with equal energy and find it interesting too. A lot of creative brainstorming was done. Finally, we zeroed in on two to three brilliant subjects and then made our final selection," Ramesh says.
The excitement has already begun for Ramesh who has started planning the shooting. "It's all very exciting no doubt. Uttama Villain will have elements of comedy, entertainment, action and a star. What we want of the film was clear to us when Kamal began writing the script. The moment he switches on his laptop and puts his fingers on the keys, you know he's going to come up with a fabulous script. We plan to go on the floors in November. There was a lot of work happening with his (Kamal's) Vishwaroopam 2. Now that Kamal is nearly finished with it, he will soon put his attention to this bilingual project," he says.
For Ramesh, directing Kamal is not new. "I worked with him in Rama Shama Bhama. But this time, the canvas is bigger in terms of budget and vision which is interesting. We are friends and so it makes engaging as professionals pleasant. We are perfectly aligned in our thoughts as actor and director," says Ramesh who enjoys being behind the camera.
Directing Kamal is many a filmperson's dream. "It's a delight to direct him because of his talent, his commitment, his quality consciousness and performance value. Now I need a team that is equally passionate about cinema. That will happen without a fuss because Kamal is in this film," says Ramesh.
