It is going to be techie-turned-director Venkat Bharadwaj’s big day. After all his dream venture, A Day in the City, is finally hitting the multiplexes this Friday.
An excited Venkat says, “It is a challenge and risk to release the film only in multiplexes, but since it was made on a shoestring budget, we had to go for it. There is an advantage and a disadvantage of a multiplex release. We get a percentage of the profits if it is a success and they keep the film, otherwise they remove it. A single theatre was not possible because of the high rentals. So the film will be screened at 11 multiplexes in the city.”
Budget constraints have led to plenty of improvisations and Venkat has roped in the help of his friends. “The film has 44 characters of which 36 are techies. We shot during weekends and at multiple locations in the city,” he says.
The film focuses on water conservation and is narrated as an incident that occurs in the city between 6 am and midnight on a particular day.
“It is about the common issues faced by people in their day-to-day life. I have managed to highlight seven aspects of human relationships in 125 minutes,” says Venkat. The film also has English subtitles mainly to target a wider audience.
