This year began on a great note for Parul Yadav after the success of Killing Veerappan. The actress is now looking forward to the release of her much anticipated film, Jessie.

Although born in Mumbai, she has become a household name in Karnataka since her dream debut with Govindaya Namaha. Parul has followed it with panache, having created an impact with varied roles in Shivajinagar, Bachchan, Uppi 2, and Aatagara.

With Jessie all set for release, the actress shows no signs of nervousness; instead there is an abundance of confidence, a reflection of her success since her entry into Sandalwood in 2012.

“When Pavan offered me Jessie, I felt lucky. Moreover, he was the director who gave me my first hit in Kannada. I felt I was in safe hands and the feeling became even better because of the character he offered me. I have been looking for such a role. It is something  no other director has ever thought of,” she says.

Parul's character is called Nandini in Jessie, a triangular love story.

“She is a soft-spoken Brahmin girl. She's the kind of girl that men don't like to flirt with, but want to marry and take home. She is more or less like the real me. She loves her parents and takes no nonsense. So it was not difficult for me to portray the character. Though it is a deglamourised role, there is still beauty to Nandini's character,” she says.

Parul is hopeful that people will fall in love with her character in Jessie and feels that soon, more filmmakers will offer her romantic roles.

“That is one of the reasons I have not signed up any other film. Last year, I did seven films and proved myself in almost all of them, which has made me more responsible. The Kannada audience always made me feel like I am the best. I want to maintain that. Now I am looking for more content-oriented scripts,” she says.

Killing Veerappan did her a lot of good, Parul feels. “My role in the film affirmed among the audience the fact that I can act and that I am not just pretty. The industry has put me in a different league altogether and I am fortunate to be getting diverse roles,” she says.
