BENGALURU: Kannada film, Hebbet Rammakka directed by Nanjunde Gowda has won the 65th national award in the regional film category, but the director said that he had anticipated a bigger recognition. “I expected a sure award for Hebbet Ramakka and it is something every filmmaker hopes for. But, I expected a higher level of recognition for the film at a national level because of the subject and its contemporary relevance,” he says.

Hebbet Ramakka is about women’s political reservations and its tag line being Sama baalu Sama paalu. (Equal life and equal rights). “Contentwise, this was a subject beyond our language and state. In fact I wanted to make this film in south Indian languages and in Marathi too because it was not only meant for Karnataka. It is an educative film about women and constitutional rights. I felt the jury should have considered it at national level,” he says.

Films in the political genre might be many, but a film like this, starts from ground level, right from Gram Panchayat. I have so many incidents of women representatives at different levels and according to me 80% of the women candidates who won are misused by the system,” he says.

Irrespective of the award, Nanjunde Gowda feels that the film should reach out to all. “The very purpose of making the film is to create social awareness. We are now releasing the film on April 27. The film stars Tara and Devaraj with music by Poornachandra Tejaswi.

Playing a title role after 13 yrs was exciting: Tara

Awards and recognition are not new for actress Tara. The much decorated actress however says that every award ceremony still has her on edge. “I still get the same kind of excitement and jitters when awards are announced." She felt this movie was special because after
13 years she got to play the title role, Ramakka.
