KOZHIKODE: The release of Mohanlal - Sreenivasan starrer ‘Oru Naal Varum’ has run into trouble after a court here has stayed its release until May 31. The move comes after a complaint that the storyline was plagiarized.
The District Judge stayed the release of the much-hyped film 'Oru Naal Varum' (a day will come) which was originally scheduled to hit the theatres tomorrow.
Passing interim orders on the petition by KV Vijayan , a teacher, who alleged that Sreenivasan had copied the original script penned by him a few years ago, the court issued summons to Sreenivasan, Director T K Rajiv Kumar and Producer Maniyan Pillai Raju to appear before it on May 31.
Vijayan, who had worked as an assistant director in 'Gulmohar' (directed by Jayaraj), contended he had submitted the script to Sreenivasan last year, but the latter had rejected it.
He also produced in the court a copy of the script that was published as a book in February last and a copy of Sreenivasan's interview in a film magazine narrating his film's storyline.
Sreenivasan had earlier been accused of "stealing" a story penned by one Satheydran Poyikkavu, a resident of nearby Koyilandi, for the highly successful 'Kathaparayumbol' , co-starred by Mammootty .
Mohanlal and Sreenivasan have come together in 'Oru Naal Varum' after a gap of six years since their mega hit film 'Udayananu Tharam' , which looked a lot like the Hollywood blockbuster hit 'Bowfinger' , starring Steve Martin and Eddie Murphy in the lead roles.
