DI is a motley of everything snazzy. There is a flashy cop who can send  20 men flying, with a punch, over-the-top villians from Goa, wry humour and fast-paced action sequences. Well, Inspector Dawood Ibrahim is set to take you on a very ‘unrealistic’ journey.

IDI, the comic action thriller, starring Jayasurya, that will hit the screens this week is a ‘masala movie’, says director Sajid Yahiya.

“This movie is set on the borders of Kerala. Jayasurya plays a gutsy sub-inspector who takes on the bad guys. The movie has a lot of funny elements, yet is very high on action,” says the director.

Sajid says IDI is meant as a break from the raw and realistic movies that is creating waves today.  “Realistic movies are ruling theatres these days. Now, it is time for a break. Everything in IDI is make-believe, right from the hero to the plot but it is also so much fun,” says Sajid.

So, why has he named the protagonist Dawood Ibrahim? “Yes, there is something very funny about his name. And, there is a solid reason for that. One has to watch the movie to understand why,” says Sajid.

He has a solid reason to cast Jayasurya, too. “Jayan is someone who has mostly played the stereotypical guy-next-door roles. This is going to be a break from what we have seen of him. He has played it so well,” says Sajid.

The movie has Sshivada (of Su..Su..Sudhi Vatmeekam) in the lead. “Essentially it is Inspector Dawood Ibrahim’s story. But, Sshivada has a prominent role. And, she will be seen fighting it out. There is some high-voltage action sequences featuring her,” says Sajid.

The movie, penned by Sajid Yahiya and Arouz Irfan, is produced by Arun and Ajay. Rahul Raj has scored the music.
