Film: Devru Cast: Vijay, Pragna, Ashish Vidyarthi, Ravi Kale, Shobaraj, Rockline Venkatesh, Sadhu Kokila, PN Satya Director: Sadhu Kokila DEVRU is a remake of the Tamil film Thalai Nagaram and deals with the issue of the nexus between police and anti-social elements. Director Sadhu Kokila, who directed Anatharu a few years ago, has put in a lot of effort to make his latest venture, Devru, interesting.

As far as Vijay’s performance is concerned, he is outstanding in the stunt sequences, and it would be unfair to expect him to emote or become romantic in this action-oriented flick.

Pragna has nothing to do except run around trees with Vijay and become unconscious whenever she sees Sadhu Kokila’s face. She has to go a long way to establish herself as a heroine. Her dialogue delivery is poor and she looks like a child compared to Vijay.

One surprise element in the movie is is producer Rockline Venkatesh. He doubles up as an actor, playing a police inspector in the movie. He can be an asset to Sandalwood if he focuses on acting and works a little more on his dialogue delivery. Ravi Kale and Ashish Vidyarthi are convincing as vicious villains.

The story revolves round Devru (Vijay), a henchman of an underworld don Ram Reddy (Ravi Kale). After losing his friend Nandi (PN Satya), he decides to stop working for don and lead a normal life. Circumstances compel Divya (Pragna), a prospective contestant for the Miss India competition, to take shelter at Devru’s residence.

In the meanwhile, the assistant commissioner of police, Dhanush (Ashish Vidyarthi), comes to Bangalore and asks Devru to get back to the antisocial activities. Devru, who has fallen in love with Divya, refuses. TO get back at him, the ACP re-opens criminal cases against Devru and makes his life miserable. You have to watch the film to know if Devru wins his battle against Ram Reddy and his henchmen, includong the ACP.

Some of the songs, especially the item song, are mainly meant for the frontbenchers.

Dialogues are powerful and punchy.
