Having tasted success with their earlier joint ventures (Yaaradi Nee Mohini, Kutty ), both remakes of Telugu hits, the Dhanush-Jawahar team comes together once again for its third outing — Uthamaputhiran. It is yet another remake of a Telugu film, Ready.

The film has an engaging screenplay with cleverly arranged situations.

The script includes all the ingredients — family sentiment, humour, comedy, romance and action — judiciously blended to make an engaging cocktail of entertainment.

The scenario is familiar but the re-arranged situations and deft handling ensure that there is rarely a boring moment.

The story revolves around three joint families, and the star cast is huge, with each actor fitting in suitably.

Dhanush as Shiva has essayed his role with effortless ease and charm. A perfect foil is Genelia, sparkling and vivacious.

Her role as Pooja is similar to the ones she has enacted earlier. Shiva is a do-gooder, always willing to help out his friends, particularly in their love lives. But Shiva lands in trouble when he kidnaps the wrong girl , Pooja from a marriage venue, mistaking her to be his friend’s lover. Pooja turns out to be a wealthy orphan, her two avaricious warring uncles vying with each other to get her married to their respective sons. After a few misadventures, the duo fall in love. Pooja is forcibly taken away by her uncle. The ruse which Shiva adopts, backed by his family, to gain entry into her well-guarded house and get the approval of her uncles, forms the rest.

Superbly timed and brilliant is Vivek’s act as the high strung ‘ Emotional Ekambaram’, tossed between the feuding uncles and Shiva. He is the auditor for both the uncles and with his help, Shiva manages to enter Pooja’s house.

Of special mention is Bhagyaraj as Shiva’s supportive uncle , Rajashekhar Reddy as Pooja’s uncle, and Mayilsami as a victim of Shiva’s ruse. A warm, feel-good film that appeals to the goodness in humans, Uthamaputhiran is a light- hearted wholesome entertainer targeted at the family audience.
