'Villain' (Kannada)

Director: MS Ramesh

Cast: Adhitya, Ragini Dwivedi, Dharma, Rangayana Raghu, Shobaraj

The Kannada movie industry did not try to fetch much business during these summer holidays. Every film released, was either a failure at the box office or did not attract the audience. ‘Villain’ is another example of a film which failed to impress. Lack of script, poor narration and no publicity caused all the damage. It seemed like the film has been made only to avail television satellite rights. Neither, director MS Ramesh, nor actor Adhitya have done justice to the title.

hile MS Ramesh has lost his control in the script, screenplay and direction, Adhitya has no heroic image in his role. Tippu (Adhitya) is an orphan, picked up by a local MLA Rajendra (Shobaraj) and a goon (Rangayana Raghu). He becomes a hitman and protects the master (MLA) from his opponents. Anu (Ragini Dwivedi), a radio jockey falls for a softer side of Tippu, not knowing that he works for an MLA.

Rajendra, who notices this, tries to bring a rift between the lovers. Meanwhile, Anu’s younger brother Vinay, an investigative reporter at a news channel gets hold of a video containing some criminal evidence against Rajendra’s gang. Learning about it, Rajendra and his gang kills Vinay, in Tippu’s presence. Hurt by this, Anu distances herself from Tippu.

Tippu is caught between his love and loyalty to his master. Whether or not he gets his love, is the story of ‘Villain’.

Ragini Dwivedi, the heroine, has nothing much to do and came across as dull in the film.

Rangayana Raghu, as a goon, and Shobhraj, as the MLA, are quite an average.

Dharma’s role of cop is quite good. Gurukiran has nothing new to offer in his music. Technically, Dasari Seenu has done a good job, but could not stand throughout the film.
