Simple Aagi Ondhu Love Story (Kannada)

A Sharadhaa

A film to either love or probably loathe… Simple Aagi Ondhu Love Story is predictable in certain parts, and fresh in others. A movie strictly for young hearts, it definitely does one job in its complete form…it keeps you engaged with some brilliant one-liners.

Certain positives: Sunil Kumar’s debut is a gentle love story exquisitely composed in terms of script. Being outrageously entertaining cult classic, director Suni, as he is better known, attempts to combine energetic, high gloss finish with raw poetic intensity that ends up consistent and delightful.

The screenplay of Simple ...opens at the present as they take the audience back in time holding the narrative taunt as they travel tenses.

The story set in three seasons summer, rainy and winter is about Kushal (Rakshith Shetty) who connects with a girl and gets attracted to her at first sight. Getting to know each other, they open up about their past love. Surprisingly, the two characters appear as a couple in flashbacks. Coming back to the present, they develop an intimacy. Like a twist in the tale, for some reason, Kushal is in for a shock to learn about the girl whom he started liking, who finally reveals her name as Kushi (Shweta Srivastava). Will both the couple find love is what the movie is about. Performance of both Rakshith Shetty and Shweta Srivastava is ‘cute’. The performance brings an appealing nuance to each role. The director has created episodes, which connects with the modern world. With its crispy dialogues, slick characterisation and impulsive cinematography ending up with a stylish twist, it is again a visual treat by Manohar Joshi who is accompanied with some simple melodies by BJ Bharath. The narration of the film is fresh and interesting.

Certain Negatives: As the story progresses, the screenplay slowly gets lost in the woods.  The film also sees an overdose of the couple.

The Verdict: Want to get engaged with crispy dialogues. Then go for Simple...
