CHENNAI: With just two films, 'Vennila Kabadi Kuzhu' and 'Naan Mahaan Alla', director Suseenthiran has proved that he is capable of handling movies of different genre and can make it a hit at the box office.
His debut venture was on winning the Kabadi match. What followed was a typical commercial movie with action in the second half. This time, the director has chosen an entirely different script — 'Azhagarsamiyin Kuthirai' (AK), which, as the title suggests, revolves around a horse and it’s owner.
“I casually narrated the script of AK to art director Rajeevan and he in turn passed it on to Madhan of Photon Factory, a production house of director Gautham Vasudev Menon. Gautham got very excited about the script and that’s how it happened. AK is a mix of different genres. The treatment of the film was entirely different,” informs Suseenthiran.
The movie has been shot in Mallayapuram and its surrounding villages in Theni district. The director says about the film, “The lead character, Azhagarsami lives in Periakulam and earns his livelihood with a horse he owns. But Azhagarsami gets the shock of his life when the horse goes missing and his marriage plans also get shelved. He goes in search of the horse.
"Meanwhile, the villagers of Mallayapuram strongly believe that there would be rains only after the Thiruvizha , when God would be taken around the village on a wooden horse. While Azhagarsami is in search of the real horse, the villagers are looking for a lifeless horse. Whether Azhagarsami finds his horse and what happens to the villagers looking for a wooden horse form the plot of the film.”
Suseenthiran screened the movie to Ilaiyaraja to make him score the music and the maestro seems to have enjoyed the film.
“The music has come out really well,” says Suseenthiran, whose next project is with actor Vikram.
“At present the post production work is on and the film would hit screens in the first week of April,” informs the director.
