CHENNAI: The stage is set for the ‘big’ event — the Big Tamil Entertainment Awards — a star-studded platform to celebrate entertainers in four main categories — music and dance, sports, television and cinema, carefully scrutinised and selected by the celebrated jury — Suhasini Maniratnam, Lissy Priyadarshan, Rohini and Kushboo.

The performing artistes for the award function, namely Stephen Devassy (internationally famous pianist), actress Shammu, singer and performer Ranina Reddy and the dance troupe members of Sudhakar’s Aerollerz will be present at the occasion. Also on the list of performing artistes are singers Vijay Prakash and Saindhavi, actress Tharika, dancers Mani, Ranjith and Wang. And what they promise is not just an evening of felicitation but a wholesome entertainment with song and dance sequences, music medleys and more.

As RJ Balaji of the evening drivetime show Take it Easy and the emcee at the press meet revealed, “The event will be hosted by RJ Dheena of the breakfast show Big Vanakkam along with a VJ, which is still unconfirmed.”

Rohini, who was also present at the press meet, said, “I wouldn’t say whether I fit my role as one of the jury members to actually churn out the best in all the categories, but I have played my part from the point of view of a ‘rasikai’, or an ardent fan of  movies, music, television and sports.”

Also present at the gathering were Rjs Kanmani, Ophelia, Sindhu, programming head, Big FM. As announced earlier, the highlight of the award function will be honouring superstar Rajinikanth with The Big Tamil Entertainer — Phenomenon Award. The event is promoted by 92.7 Big FM, Manasa Thotta Melody radio station, and co-sponsored by Guinea Lite and Reliance Mobile, and will be telecast on Star Vijay. The event is scheduled for March 26 at Image Auditorium, 5.30 pm onwards.
