If it hadn’t been for Suriya’s intervention, Aamir Khan might have well turned down A R Murugadoss’ offer to act in the commercial and critical blockbuster Ghajini. Raking in well over `150 crore when it released in 2008, the film turned out to be one of his highest grossing releases ever — a record that still holds good five years later.

“My fear when I listened to the script of Ghajini was that I didn’t know if I could do that kind of a role. I told Murugadoss that I wasn’t confident of doing that much action in a film. I’d never done something like going around destroying people on screen. Then, I spoke to Suriya and told him that I couldn’t see myself in that role. That’s when he persuaded me and said that I was ideal for it and asked me to give it a shot,” recalled the actor, during a visit to the city recently.

He also revealed that he had been astounded by the character that Suriya had etched in the original Tamil film in 2005, where he played a deranged revenge-seeking industrialist, with anteretrograde amnesia. “It was awesome, just awesome,” he exclaimed.
