Village-centric realistic Tamil films have been made in the past and many of them have tasted success as well. Yet, there seems to be more to explore in the genre with an upcoming film Azhagu Magan that aims to explore the category of films.

The film, shot entirely in Theni, Bodi and surrounding areas, is said to have dealt with a real-life incident that took place in the region.

Debutant Azhagan Selva, a former associate of director Yaar Kannan, has directed the film and a newcomer Udhay plays the lead role apart from co-producing the film.

Malayalam actor Malavika Wales makes her debut in Tamil as the female lead with Azhagu Magan.

Udhay is a graduate in civil engineering, but has plunged into acting with passion. “I thought it would be appropriate to debut with a village-based script and when Azhagu Magan came my way I decided to produce the film as well,” he said.

The film has been shot in places where director Bala’s Paradesi and Avan Ivan were made.

James Vasanthan has composed music and the audio will be launched on August 3.
