'Trisha Illana... is About How to Handle Break ups

Rinku Gupta

Director Adhik Ravichandran struggled for two years, meeting 13 producers before he finally found the right one. He has no exposure to making films except for watching his dad as the assistant director for 15 years. But one thing the 26-year-old has, is a bucket load of confidence, both in himself and his script. Perhaps that was why he was able to rope in GV Prakash, Simran, Manisha Yadav and Kayal-fame Anandi as his leads. And its with the same  confidence in  his story, Trisha Illana Nayanthara (TIN), that he got eyeballs popping at the teaser, with the bold dialogues and lyrics.

What’s more, he also managed to get people talking about the ‘36 takes kiss’ between his leads, GV Prakash and Manisha. With so much masala in his dish, Adhik is happy he got the attention of the industry and the youth.

“TIN is a bold, realistic, modern-day love story. From my own experience and that of my friends, I found that the mood swings that girls experience are amongst the most difficult issues for boys to understand. It’s about how people have to move on when love fails. The film has nothing to do with the two actors in the title. It is just an indicator that if you can’t have one person in your life, you have to move onto the next and learn how to handle the break ups,” revealed Adhik.

He agrees that words like  ‘bit padam di’ and  ‘virgin pasanga saavu ungale chumma udadhu di’ in TIN, are bold in nature. “See, good or bad, I want people to talk about my film. I’ve used expressions that I’ve observed in common parlance in daily life. It’s something youngsters will relate to. In fact, Bharathi Raja told me ‘You are very bold and you’ll make a good commercial director, one day’  That was very encouraging for me,” he re-iterates.

The fact that the elusive Simran is playing an important character, is a big plus for him. “She agreed to meet me for 15 minutes, but we got so engrossed that we spoke for an hour. She immediately agreed to the role. There’ll be a big makeover for her. She plays Anandi’s aunt.”

Quizzed about the famed liplock with 36 takes, he chuckles, “It’s true, it took 36 takes alright. But I wanted to shoot till I got the right chemistry between  GV Prakash and Manisha, which wasn’t happening since it was the first day of shoot.
