Earlier, a few sections of the media reported that Nithya Menen would star in Mahanati, the Tamil-Telugu biopic on the late South Indian actor Savithri. It was said that she expressed her interest in the script as she liked the filmmaker’s narration. However, CE learns that she hasn’t signed it yet.

A few reports suggest that talks are on with Samantha, who’s also being considered for the lead role. Directed by the Tollywood filmmaker Nag Ashwin, who debuted with the Yevade Subramanyam (2015), it might take some more time to know who would bag the project.

The makes have planned to conduct an online poll to finalise. If everything goes well, official announcement would be made by the end of the month.
Sources said that the director had spent the last six months researching on Savithri. “The crew wants to make the right choice and it will be made depending on which actor gets the maximum votes,” the sources added.
