Imtiaz Ali explaining who Shah Rukh Khan's character in 'Jab Harry Met Sejal' says that Harinder Singh Nehra, a tour guide is someone who guides about a ton of people every day and takes them where they want, but personally, he is lost. He has not found what he is seeking for, but every day in his life there are hundreds of people reaching where they want to reach, which is just a tourist location that he is not even bothered to look at. He doesn’t know where he is going and yet, he is a tour guide.
Butterfly controversy - The film courted controversy when two musicians, Aaman Trikha and Dev Nagi claimed to have sung for Shah Rukh Khan in the 'Butterfly' song from 'Jab Harry Met Sejal'. Shah Rukh Khan had tweeted that 'Thank You. U give life to the song.', mentioning Aaman Trikha. Later composer Pritam clarified (Firstpost - July 18, 2017) Dev's is the primary voice but Aaman has also sung for it and thus given credit.
'Mini Trailers' - The team behind 'Jab Harry Met Sejal' used the concept of 'mini trails' to bring the audience attention to the film. No, those are not trailer but short videos under 40 second to introduce the title characters of the film. The 'trails' included 'Character Kharaab', 'Indemnity Bond', 'Excuse Hai', 'Sejal Ka Matlab' and 'Ring Kahaan Hai'.
Superstar turns tourist guide - Shah Rukh Khan plays a tourist guide in the Imtiaz Ali directed film. The Jodhpur Tourist Guide Association presented him with an Honorary Membership while the actor was in the city to promote the film. The actor served as the guest editor of The Guide supplement of Mid-Day in Mumbai for five days.
Third collaboration between Anushka and Shah Rukh Khan - The film marks the third collaboration between Shah Rukh Khan and Anushka Sharma. Incidentally, Anushka Sharma made her debut in films, playing the female lead to Shah Rukh Khan in 'Rab Ne Banadi Jodi' in 2008. Later, the two starred in Yash Chopra's swan song, 'Jab Tak Hai Jaan' in 2012.
Shah Rukh Khan's turbaned look - Khan's turbaned look was leaked when fans instagrammed his picture from the shooting location even before the movie's official marketing had to even think about it. When the promotion started, the look was revealed in the Butterfly song. Khan, though completely rocks the look.
First Indian song to be put behind limited-time paywall - The 'Phurr' song, composed by Pritam features American rapper Diplo and is being touted as the biggest musical collaboration by Sony India. The limited paywall allows people to listen to the song but they will have to pay on the limited-time paywall across the multiple digital media platforms the song is available on.
To all the Sejals in the world - As part of the marketing strategy, the film's team invited all girls named Sejal to apply, if they wanted a chance (of course) to meet the Superstar. More than 400 Sejals thronged SRK's residence in Mumbai, Mannat as well as the huge number of Sejals turned up to meet the star when he visited Ahmedabad to promote the film. Apparently, the film's team received over 7000 applications.
Imtiaz Ali initially wanted to make a film about 'a man trying to commit suicide' - Apparently, the 'Tamasha' director has approached King Khan with a story of a man trying to commit suicide but the actor asked Imtiaz to do a happier story instead. Thus, 'Jab Harry Met Sejal' was born.
Shah Rukh Khan gets a paan named after him - Shah Rukh Khan and Anushka Sharma, on a promotion spree visited Varanasi/Benares. The duo wanted to try the famous Benarasi paan and visited a paan shop. While at the shop, they got to know that the 'Tambulam Paan Shop' they were in was actually 70 years old. Shortly after the stars left, people thronged the place and the demand for the 'chilled meetha paan' which SRK had savoured increased. The owner of the shop has kept the item in a completely different section in his menu due to the demand.
