NEW DELHI: Despite the countrywide infrastructure for the training of ICDS functionaries, only one third of functionaries got the training in 2009-10.

According to the annual report of the Ministry of Women and Child Welfare for 2009-10, only 34 percent of Anganwadi workers got the training in the states. Only 23 percent Anganwadi workers got the refresher training.

Against a budgetary allocation of Rs 100 crores, under the ICDS training programme, an amount of Rs 71.11 crore was released to the states till the last date of last year.

There is a countrywide infrastructure for level with all AWTCs/MLTCs to review the training of ICDS functionaries, implementation of training programmes as Anganwadi Workers Training Centres (AWTCs) per the training calendar and State Training for the Training of Anganwadi Action Plans (STRAPs).

The Ministry has recently initiated a process of consultations with the states to review and identify gaps in the existing training programme and make suggestions to strengthen ICDS training programme, including its contents, training and the existing chapter on monitoring mechanism under ICDS training programme.
