Twelve Bangladeshis have been arrested in Tripura for illegally entering India, police said Tuesday.

Police suspect the men may have been involved in the recent attacks on Buddhist and Hindu temples in Chittagong in Bangladesh.

"They might have entered western Tripura two days back. They were arrested at Manu," said a police spokesman.

They would be sent back to Bangladesh after legal formalities.

Tripura shares a 856-km border with Bangladesh. According to an official document, since 1974 around 186,500 Bangladeshis have been sent back after facing detention in Tripura.
