Two Ex-judges in BCCI’s IPL probe panel

Express News Service

The BCCI has appointed a three member commission to look into allegations of irregularities which took place during IPL-6. The probe is against Gurunath Meiyappan, India Cements, the owner of the Chennai Super Kings, and Jaipur IPL Pvt. Ltd, owner of the Rajasthan Royals.

The members of the commission are Justice T Jayaram Chouta, former judge of the Karnataka and Madras High Courts, Justice R Balasubramanian, former judge of the Madras High Court and BCCI secretary Sanjay Jagdale.

Earlier, it was announced that the commission will have one person independent of the BCCI. As it turned out, there are two independent members.

BCCI sources said the two judges were included after BCCI vice-president Arun Jaitley declined to be part of the panel in order to ensure that there is no doubt about the fairness of the investigation.

Jaitley and fellow BCCI vice-president Rajiv Shukla are believed to have suggested that instead of one retired judge, there should be two judges.
