CB-CID to get a fix on Guru's role through CCTV footage

R Prince Jebakumar

The CB-CID is planning to scan CCTV footages in some luxury hotels and a residential complex to unearth more evidence in the IPL betting racket and to nail disgraced Chennai Super Kings (CSK) team owner Gurunath Meiyyappan.

This follows the grilling of kingpin Kitty alias Uttam C Jain, here on Thursday. According to the CB-CID, investigations, including scanning of call records of bookies, have established Meiyyappan’s role. “We are looking for more evidence and perusal of CCTV footages,” a probe officer said. CB-CID sources said an analysis of CCTV footage at the Radisson Blu Hotel owned by Vikram Aggarwal would help them ascertain the role of Meiyyappan, who has already been arrested by the Mumbai Police.

“Rooms at Radisson Blu were used to operate the racket during IPL matches and Meiyyappan would have visited the hotel,” the officer added.

“We came to know from the mobile phone tower location that Vikram and Kitty were running the betting together for high-profile punters during IPL matches. An analysis of CCTV footages will help us find the other punters and bookies too,” a senior police official said.

CB-CID sleuths also plan to analyse CCTV footage from Fortune Hotel Select Palms as well, since it is owned by Aggarwal.

CB-CID officials quizzed the owner of the flat at 2, VP Colony, 3rd Street in Ayanavaram, where Kitty was running his office.

“When the flat owner asked Kitty about his business, he said he was into trading. The flat had been rented for four months. The owner had seen several high-end cars coming through the day and more cars during IPL matches. The flat owner even checked on Kitty’s employee Sanjay Manipal, who was clueless about his boss’s business,” the official said.
