A city court hearing the IPL betting case filed by the CB-CID, extended the police custody of kingpin Kitty alias Uttam C Jain till June 3, following a representation from the CB-CID.
Sources said the CB-CID moved court seeking Kitty’s custody for seven more days, since they had to take him to Karnataka to examine his links there. It was found that a good number of his calls had landed in Bengaluru.
However, the court granted only four days custody and also allowed the counsel to meet Kitty during custody. Meanwhile, the court remanded Raja alias Jasraj Jain, another bookie, who was produced after custody. Sources said Kitty admitted to have run the betting ring and also named nine of his major clients who placed bets with him.
The persons whom he named during the investigation were: Ashwin, Vikram, Vijay, Manjunath, Sam, S G Rajan, SR Super, Kalra and Mahesh, all from Chennai.
Based on the dossier seized from Kitty’s offcie, CB-CID sleuths are trying to find out the amount for which these punters placed their bets.
The CB-CID headquarters drew the attention of reporters, who were awaiting hotelier Vikram Aggarwal’s appearance.
Meanwhile, CB-CID DSP S Raja Srinivasan told media that they will take legal action, including arrest, to ensure Aggarwal was present for interrogation in connection with the case.
Aggarwal failed to appear before the CB-CID, who summoned him for investigation on May 30 by 10.30 am. Though his anticipatory bail plea was dismissed by the High Court, the hotelier did not appear before the CB-CID.
Aggarwal, who was known as Victor among the bookies, is also the common link in the IPL fixing scam probed by the Mumbai Police and a close friend of BCCI chief N Srinivasan’s son-in-law Gurunath Meiyyappan. He had operated with Kitty as well.
