NEW DELHI: The CBI on Tuesday trashed the claim of the Delhi Police that the auto driver who was last seen with missing JNU student Najeeb had been traced and also said that his confession was taken under duress, agency sources said.

In a status report submitted before the Delhi High Court in a sealed cover on Tuesday in connection with its probe into the missing JNU student, the CBI also told the court that the auto driver was coerced to admit that he had dropped Najeeb from JNU to Jamia Millia Islamia University in the national capital on the day he went missing on October 15, the sources said.

Twenty-seven-year-old Najeeb, a student of M.Sc Biotechnology, Jawaharlal Nehru University had gone missing from the Mahi-Mandvi hostel of the university campus on October 15 last year. Najeeb had gone missing following a scuffle with some other students, allegedly linked to the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) on October 14.

The CBI filed a status report before the court detailing the progress of investigation in the case.

Initially, the case was being probed by the Delhi police and subsequently, the CBI took over the investigation into the case at the behest of Delhi High Court that is monitoring the investigation of the case.
