AGARTALA: A woman has complained to the police that the CPI-M candidate of Takarjala in the recent assembly poll in Tripura had tried to molest her at her home in Sipahijala district, about 35 km from here, along with another person.

The CPI-M candidate Ramendra Debbarma said it was framed up case aimed to malign his image.

According to the FIR filed last night, two persons including Debbarma tried to molest the woman at her house at Amtali yesterday at around 1 PM, when she was sleeping and left when she raised an alarm.

Confirming the receipt of the complaint, superintendent of police (police Control), Pradip Dey today said investigation into the case is on.

A group of activists of the opposition Indigenous People's Front of Tripura demonstrated before the Takarjala police station after the alleged incident demanding immediate arrest of Debbarma, he said.

They called off their demonstration later when Sipahijala district superintendent of police Sudipta Das assured them to arrest the person if found guilty.

Elections to the 60-member Tripura assembly was held in Tripura on February 18 and the results would be announced on March 3.
