NEW DELHI:  The BJP and Trinamool Congress MPs sparred in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday on the issue of alleged cases of lynching in West Bengal and Kerala. The Lok Sabha was adjourned in time to avoid BJP MP Kirit Somaiya and his TMC counterparts joining the issue in the well of the House.

Somaiya raised the issue of alleged cases of lynching of women in West Bengal and Kerala, which immediately invited noisy interventions from the TMC MPs, including Kalyan Banerjee and Idris Ali. The BJP MP raised the issue of lynching during the Zero Hour. Four women were lynched and even stripped in West Bengal. What has the state government doing?" asked Somaiya. He also mentioned alleged lynching incidents in Kerala. The Left MPs from Kerala too joined the issue in the din.

Somaiya, who looked visibly agitated, was seen walking towards the well of the House after reading out the text of his submission in the House. The TMC MPs too sought to join the BJP MP in the well of the House. However, Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Ananth Kumar sought to pacify the agitated Trinamool members even while the Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan expressed her displeasure. "What's happening here," wondered Mahajan.

Later, Kumar, while making intervention, stated that the government does not approve such incident in any parts of the country. "Steps are being taken by the Centre against the menace of mob lynching. I will bring to the notice of the Home Minister Rajnath Singh about the incidents, which the members have highlighted in the House," said Kumar amid vociferous protests by the TMC MPs.
