SRINAGAR: Tension gripped Srinagar after a youth, who had received injuries in clashes with security forces on August 6, succumbed in hospital on Tuesday night.
After the death of youth, authorities on Wednesday re-imposed restrictions in parts of Srinagar and some other sensitive areas of the Valley to maintain law and order and foil protests.
Asrar Ahmad Khan, 18, had sustained injuries during clashes with security forces in Soura in downtown Srinagar on August 6, the day after the Centre scrapped Article 370 and bifurcated J&K into two Union Territories. Asrar was a student of Class XI.
Asrar’s father Firdous Ahmad said there was no provocation and his son was playing in a park in Illahibagh area of Srinagar. “He was hit by pellets during firing by security forces,” a family member said.
The SKIMS medical report confirmed that the teenager was hit by multiple pellets on head and eyes.
However, Additional DG, J&K Police (ADGP), Munir Ahmad Khan said the youth was hit by stones during the clashes. “No shelling, no pellet injuries, he was hit by a stone,” Khan said.
