KOCHI: Young actor Minon John is keen on making a comeback statement as a painting artist with new art exhibition ‘Meet my art!’ ‘Meet My Art’, an art exhibition by young artist and actor Minon John opened to the public at the Durbar Hall Art Gallery on Tuesday. The gallery is open to all from 11 am to 7 pm. The exhibition was inaugurated by national award-winning film director Sidhartha Shiva.
For Minon, the exhibition is his big return to art after a three-year break. The artist, who achieved fame through films, is determined to re-establish his prime identity as a paintingartist through this exhibition. The 18-year-old had been at work for almost three months to create the 30 paintings that are on display.
Visualising a mixture of different themes, Minon has been doing art exhibitions all over the country since the age of eight. “Painting is my way of exploring myself,” he said. “I’m not sure of what genre my art falls into, but I guess it has elements of spontaneous realism, impressionism and figurative modern art. I think it’s safe to call it ‘Minon-ism’.”
The exhibition features his latest acrylic works. As a reflection of the vibrant show of colours and the sheer brilliance, the first day of the exhibition drew a significant crowd of art lovers.
“Minon’s mind is that of a genius. He’s a prodigy, he’s always been an inspiration”, said Sidhartha Shiva, who was not short of words as he lauded the youngster’s initiative. Sidhartha directed the 2012 film 101 Chodyangal, which was Minon’s debut movie.
Minon and his sister Mintu grew up in a family of artists. Their father John Baby is a sculptor and mother Mini is a painter. Homeschooled from a young age, Minon learned his lessons
from travel and experience, interactions with people, culture and nature. His successful stint in the film industry has won him many laurels, the jewel on the crown being the National Film Award for Best Child Artist for 101 Chodyangal. Minon also received the Kerala State Award and Kerala State Film Critics Award for the same role, in which he portrayed the role of a Class V.
“My parents never cut me off from my dreams,” said Minon. “They only pushed me to be the best at whatever I do. My biggest dream is to start an art school.” The exhibition will be open until June 10.
