Well-known numerologist Hans Decoz, in his book Numerology: Key to Your Inner Self, says that the Western form of numerology, the Pythagorian system, is among the most enduring and popular of all self-help methods ever created. The Chinese, Japanese, Greek, Hebrews, Egyptians, Phoenicians, early Christians, Mayans and Incas all employed numbers to gain a deeper understanding of themselves and the universe.

Pythagoras, the father of numerology, combined the mathematical disciplines of the Arabic, Druid, Phoenician, Egyptian and Essene sciences.

Knowing Your Hidden Passion Number: The number that appears several times in your name represents a particular strength or ability and is your Hidden Passion number. It represents your specific field of expertise or which specialised talent is tailor-made for you.

First make a Hidden Passion chart by drawing a square divided into nine smaller squares. Now number each square from 1 through 9, starting with 1 in the top left corner of the chart and ending with 9 in the lower right corner. Above each square, depending on how you hold it, is another number indicating how many times the number below appears in your full name at birth.

To begin, write out your full birth name (first, middle and last) and designate each letter with a number, according to its place in the alphabet. Reduce all double-digit numbers each to a single digit by adding together the two digits. For example, the letter “B” is a 2 because it is the second letter of the alphabet. But, the letter “T” is also a 2, as it is the 20th letter of the alphabet, and 2 + 0 = 2. Once you’ve assigned a single-digit number to each letter of your name, record the occurrence of each number into your nine-square grid.

Your Hidden Passion Number is the single-digit number that occurs most frequently in your name.
