Set in the midst of the southern part of India, Hyderabad is not only famous for its pearls and yummy biryani but even for Irani Chai (Irani tea). In fact, your trip to Hyderabad is undoubtedly incomplete if you don’t sip this hot beverage.

Despite many elite Coffee houses popping up in many parts of the city, the existence of Irani cafes in bustling streets of Charminar and other parts of the old city stand as shining example as to how other hot beverages are no match to Irani tea.

If you are wondering as to how Irani chai entered Hyderabad, you must thank Persians who introduced this favourite beverage to the country when they settled in Nawabi city on business purposes.  In no time, Irani tea paved its way into the hearts of Hyderabadis making it quintessentially Hyderabadi. It is no exaggeration to stress that Irani tea is to Hyderabad what Coffee House is to Kolkata.

You certainly need to sit back in the typical cafes of Hyderabad to pamper your taste buds with this utterly delicious chai. However, we present you the ingredients of Irani tea so that you can try preparing it at your home.

Ingredients of Irani Tea:

Although the preparation of Irani tea is a secret affair and a tough nut to crack, we managed to get the exact ingredients. Here it goes

-Tea leaves

-Mawa

-Pure Milk

Preparation of Irani Tea:

Unlike other conventional methods of tea preparation, Irani Chai is prepared like a decoction into which pure milk mixed with mawa is added.

You first need to add tea leaves to water and boil it until it becomes a decoction. In a separate vessel, you must boil pure milk on low flame for hours together. Later, you must mix chunks of mawa to it to make milk even thicker and tastier. Now you just have to add milk to the previously prepared decoction to make perfect Irani chai.

Try preparing Irani tea at your home if you long to taste it. You must, however, make it a point to visit any of Irani cafes in Hyderabad next time when you are in the city.
