Venu Srinivasan pioneered the concept of Total Quality Management, based on the Japanese model, long before most Indian enterprises adopted it. The Chairman and MD of Sundaram Clayton Ltd and TVS Motor Company scripted in the late 1980s a turnaround of the company that was then mired in labour trouble and was sinking into the red. He re-structured operations by investing in new technologies.
The grandson of TVS founder TV Sundaram lyengar and an engineer and an MBA from Purdue University (USA) took over as the CEO of Sundaram-Clayton in 1979. The same year TVS Motor Company was born and he went on to become its chairman in July 2002.
In 2001, TVS Motor Company split with Suzuki and successfully launched Victor, India’s first indigenously built four-stroke motorcycle. A slew of launches that followed propelled the company to become the third largest two-wheeler manufacturer in India.
