We all know that Tom Emmatty’sOru Mexican Aparatha is about present-day student politics.  But, there is more.“It also mentions the history of student politics in India, from the time of the Independence struggle and emergence of Bhagat  Singh, till 2004.

Though not in detail, such elements are touched upon in the storyline. Even Tovino Thomas’ character is set in two-time frames: as a present-day youth and a 1970’s campus leader Kochaniyan.”

Tom agrees that the movie has a lot of relevance in the present time when freedom of students and private colleges are in the spotlight.

The movie also has a strong romantic thread. Gayathri Suresh plays the lead opposite Tovino.

“The movie shows how particular incidents and his love affair helps him evolve as a good leader,” says Tom. The movie also stars director-actor Roopesh Peethambaram as a student leader.

Oru Mexican Aparatha, which was scheduled to be released on February 11, might get pushed back owing to the recent exhibitors and producers strike.
