MUMBAI: Home Minister P Chidambaram, who was here to pay homage to the victims of the carnage which killed over 166 innocent people, including several senior police and security officials, on Friday said that Pakistan had gone back on the promises it made on bringing the perpetrators to justice in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks case.

“Pakistan made many promises to bring the perpetrators, controllers and handlers of the 26/11 attacks to justice, arrest them, provide voice samples, but they have not done anything so far,” Chidambaram said. He reminded Pakistan of its promises and hoped that it would keep its promises and honour their responsibility of bringing the perpetrators of the attacks to justice.

He also sounded a warning against Pakistan and said, “While we trust our neighbour, we must always be vigilant.”

Chidambaram paid homage to those killed in the terror strike at Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus and met the family members of the martyrs. He met Smita Salaskar, wife of encounter specialist Vijay Salaskar, and Kavita Karkare, wife of Hemant Karkare, chief of the Mumbai ATS, who were killed in the 26/11 attacks.

Chidambaram later inaugurated a CNG filling station allocated by Mahanagar Gas to the family of slain policeman Tukaram Ombale. Praising the heroic deed of Ombale of apprehending Kasab, during which he lost his life, Chidambaram said that had it not been for Ombale, Kasab would not have been caught alive.
