Counterfeit Drugs Worth Rs 50 Lakh Seized in Raid

JAIPUR: Counterfeit drugs worth Rs 50 lakh were today seized from an illegal manufacturing unit at a house here, police said.

Acting on a tip off, a team of the medical and health department officials conducted raid at the house where the stock of counterfeit drugs was recovered, they said.

"The raid is still on. We have so far recovered a stock of fake drugs worth Rs 50 lakh and machines worth Rs 30 lakh from the basement of the house. The factory was being run by one Avdhesh Sharma," Drug Controller A K Jain said.

The drugs included pain killers, antibiotics, vitamins and other supplements and were being manufactured in the name of a fake company from Uttarakhand, Jain said.

The drugs were being supplied in states like Odisha, Maharashtra besides being supplied to Jaipur medicos, he said.

He said primary investigation suggest the drugs are counterfeit and samples have been collected for lab testing.

"After the seizure, we will hand over the case to police for further investigation and action," he said.
