RAIPUR: At least 13 people were injured after a three-storey under-construction structure collapsed in the civil lines area of Chhattisgarh capital Raipur on Thursday. Labourers trapped in the building
following the incident were rushed to the Government Medical College Hospital where the condition of seven was said to be critical.
The collapsed building belongs to the State Public Works Department (PWD) and was an extension of the new circuit house, close to the residence of PWD minister Rajesh Munat. "Stringent action will be taken against those found responsible," the minister said.
Officials of the district administration and State disaster response force reached the spot to supervise the rescue operation.
“Workers at the construction site said all those trapped in the collapsed building have been taken to safety. However, a search is still on," said Raipur collector O P Choudhary and added that there was no report of any casualty.
Chief Minister Raman Singh visited the hospital to meet the injured people. After the building collapsed, contractor Sohan Tamrakar along with the supervisor fled the spot. Raipur mayor Pramod Dubey said there will be an inquiry into the incident.
