KOLKATA: Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) special director Rakesh Asthana on Wednesday rebuked Narada scam case Investigating Officer Ranjit Kumar for the slow progress in the probe. The CBI special director also rebuked Kumar for not regularly sending status report of the probe to New Delhi.
Asthana reached Kolkata on Tuesday and met the top CBI officials in Kolkata on Wednesday discussing the progress of the probes into Narada, Sarada and Rose Valley scams. Trinamool Congress secretary general Partha Chatterjee has called Asthana's visit as 'politically motivated' to 'haunt TMC in the run up to 2019 Lok Sabha elections'.
On the other hand, investigation into the Sarada chit fund scam is nearing end and only submission of charge sheet to the court is pending, sources revealed. A report was submitted to the CBI headquarters in New Delhi two months ago. The investigation into Rose Valley scam got stuck after arrest of Enforcement Directorate's Investigating Officer Manoj Kumar.
ED had started the probe and CBI had taken it over from them. In all the three cases, reluctance of New Delhi to interrogate certain big names and West Bengal-Centre clash in the investigation are acting as big onstacles towards completion of the probe, sources revealed.
