Three workers die of suffocation while laying optical fiber cables in drainage chamber in Pune

The deceased were identified as Datta Holare, Lakhan Dhawre and Sahebrao Girsep, all contractual workers.

PUNE: Three workers died of suffocation inside a drainage chamber while laying optical fiber cables in the neighbouring Pimpri-Chinchwad on Friday, police said.

The incident took place in Nigdi area, said an official. The deceased were identified as Datta Holare, Lakhan Dhawre and Sahebrao Girsep, all contractual workers.

"They had got down into the chamber to inspect it when they suffocated," said the police official. Further investigation is on, he said.
