AHMEDABAD: A major scare was reported mid-air on Thursday when an IndiGo Surat–Dubai flight (6E-1507) carrying over 150 passengers was forced to make an emergency landing at Ahmedabad after its engine developed a technical fault.

Swift action by the pilot averted disaster, ensuring all passengers landed safely before being flown onward to Dubai on an alternate aircraft.

A technical snag hit one of the engines of the flight soon after takeoff from Surat International Airport. Realising the gravity of the fault, the pilot swiftly alerted Air Traffic Control and sought permission to divert, opting for the nearest airport, Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport.

Passengers panicked after the announcement of an engine problem, but the crew kept the situation under control. No injuries were reported, and all passengers landed safely in Ahmedabad.

Confirming the emergency landing, an airport official said, "An IndiGo flight travelling from Surat to Dubai made an emergency landing in Ahmedabad after the pilot immediately decided to divert the aircraft. Technical teams at Ahmedabad Airport carried out a detailed inspection of the plane.

"Passengers were accommodated on an alternate flight, which has since departed for its destination. Flight operations remained unaffected, with no diversions or disruptions reported."

IndiGo Spokesperson told “IndiGo flight 6E 1507, operating from Surat to Dubai, made a precautionary landing at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, Ahmedabad, due to a technical snag."

“While the aircraft is undergoing necessary maintenance checks before resuming operations, an alternative aircraft was promptly arranged to complete the journey. The flight landed in Dubai at around 1335 hrs, local time," read a statement.

“We regret the inconvenience caused to our customers and made all possible efforts to minimise it, including offering meals and refreshments. We appreciate our customers' understanding and cooperation throughout this process. At IndiGo, we remain committed to the safety and security of our customers and crew," statement added.

IndiGo’s engineers launched a detailed probe into the engine fault soon after the landing. The airline has assured that all safety checks will be completed before the aircraft is cleared to fly again.
