NEW DELHI: Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju on Tuesday criticised the Opposition for spreading falsehoods about the FCRA Bill, describing their statements as “false and baseless”.

He asserted that the FCRA Amendment Bill is intended solely to prevent the misuse of foreign funding against national security and interests and not to target any religious organisation. Speaking to reporters at the BJP headquarters, Rijiju said the bill is “the need of the hour”.

He also criticised Congress, stating that the party’s claims regarding the bill are “completely false, fabricated and misleading”. It may be recalled that a bill to amend the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act was introduced in the Lok Sabha on March 25. The government clarified that individuals engaging in forced religious conversion through foreign funding would not be spared.

Rijiju further alleged that Left parties and Congress are spreading misinformation because they fear the BJP gaining significant public support.
